REVIEW: Sencirow - Perception Of Fear AFM Records, 2006
9/10
Sencirow - Perception Of Fear - cover art Sencirow are the new German band in the power metal scene. They have already existed for about ten years and produced two demos which they threw on stage during concerts of well-known metal bands. This isn’t exactly the conventional way of getting attention from the big record labels but it served its purpose. AFM Records finally gave them a record deal and here we have their first professionally produced work “Perception of Fear”. When I listened to this album for the first time I had no expectations at all except that I had already heard of comparisons to Morgana Lefay. Great expectations to meet here but these four guys can definitely pull it off. Sencirow play power metal at its finest! Fast, catchy, kicking ass! Their music is certainly oriented towards rather old school power metal and the band doesn’t use keyboards unlike many other current power metal bands. Singer Daniel Seifert has a very powerful yet clear voice that leaves no room for complaints. Double bass dominates the drumming but now and then there are some more creative elements to be heard from drum machine Timo Schneider. Let’s not forget about the great guitar solos that pep up the songs. The album has fast tracks like “Burn it down” and “Connection of Evil” that make you want to headbang right away but also slower tracks like “Keeper of Souls” that has a wonderful acoustic guitar bridge in the middle of the song. This track also shows the first epic features which remind me a bit of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” in terms of song structures. Another song I really like is “Wargames”, a song that criticizes the reckless TV industry. To sum it up, this album is certainly a great piece of a debut album and we can surely expect more great stuff from Sencirow in the future. So go buy the album and enjoy it. If just more things were as easy as that!
