REVIEW: Serberus - Our Dying Grace Self-financed, 2001
7/10
Serberus - Our Dying Grace - cover art I didn't know that melodic death/thrash metal even existed in the US but evidently it does and some bands even do it very good like the Colorado based Serberus. Another surprise that came knocking on the door was the sound quality of this release. My experience so far tells me that American bands often don't pay that much attention to the production part and therefore often end up with a very annoying fuzzy sound but this is luckily not the case with Serberus. What stands clear after having listened to this album is that these guys are capable of playing very technical metal and also possess some creative genes. If you would like to hear what would happen if you mix the sounds of Destruction, In Flames and At The Gates together you now have your chance to find satisfaction for your curiousity. This album even contains a cover of Destruction's "Curse The Gods" which is treated with the respect it deserves. The metal scene in the US is very different from that of Europe but even though Serberus is still an unsigned band this album is better than a lot of albums being released on the major metal labels in Europe. Serberus doesn't really have a unique sound but they do what they do very well and that is what makes them one of the few American bands who have caught my interest lately.
