REVIEW: Serenade - The Serpents Dance Golden Lake Productions, 2002
7/10
Serenade - The Serpents Dance - cover art I had never heard this Scottish band before this release which is a real shame because they are a very good band. Serenade was formed in March 1994 and their first cassette EP "Let Loose The Beauty Within" from September that very year sold more than 1200 copies worldwide which is pretty impressive. Now the band is releasing their new album "The Serpents Dance" on their own label Golden Lake Productions which is probably a wise choice. Unlike most bands of today Serenade have managed to create a unique sound that distinguish them from the others. This album is a mix of brutal death metal, atmospheric progressive metal á la Opeth and stoner rock. This mix is really interesting and if you want to listen to music that makes a difference and don't mind a brutal edge then I would urge you to look further into this British band. Well, all of their previous releases are already sold out so I guess you would have to choose this one... The production could have been better and the album is a little short but musicwise there are not many flaws to be found here unless you're not too picky about clean vocals or something like that. A good solid release from a band that clearly deserves more attention than they have received so far.
