REVIEW: Set Your Goals - Reset Eulogy Recordings, 2006
6.5/10
Set Your Goals - Reset - cover art Set Your Goals is a quintet hailing from San Francisco that has recently been signed to Eulogy Recordings. The re-release of the band's EP "Reset" is supposed to be an introduction to the band for the audience and leads up to the band's full-length CD debut in the summer of 2006. The music is fast-paced melodic punk with some hardcore influences. The sound is bright, positive and has a lot of energy, this music is most of all suitable as a summer soundtrack. There are some things that perhaps could be done differently, the lyrics aren’t that good and the vocals sure could be better. But you should never expect a band in this genre to have any ambitions to write deep, poetic lyrics and when it comes to the vocals I somehow don’t expect the fans of this music to care about that. Set Your Goals compensate their flaws with intensity, catchy sing-a-long parts and an attitude that leaves the listener feeling quite happy. As a bonus-track on the re-release there’s a cover of Jawbreaker’s “Do You Still Hate Me” which the band pulls of fairly well. For all of those who get nostalgic thinking about the days of Jawbreaker and Lifetime, this EP is a must.
