Nowadays it is really hard for a band like Sethian to get out of these masses of new Finnish Power/Gothic Metal bands. You could really say that a new, typicial Finnish sound has developed in the last years, many new bands were formed and surprisingly a great
percentage of them knows how to make really good albums. The problem is; you really lose track after a while. So what's different about Sethian? They play a mix of Power Metal and Gothic Rock - and they have some well known musicians in their rows. One of them is
drummer Jukka Nevalainen (Nightwish) - however it's useless to look for any similarities between Sethian and Nightwish, even though Tuomas Holopainen (Nightwish as well) himself
played the keys as a guest-musician on 'Into The Silence'. On vocals you can find Wilska (Finntroll) who does a marvellous job on this album. Most of the melodies are created by guitarists Jussi Koponen, Juuso Jalasmäki (both can be heard on background vocals) and
Marco Kautonen, but even though this band features three six stringers, it doesn't really show any effect on the sound, which can be described as melodic, catchy and a bit 80s
influenced. Songs like "Dead Recking" (great background vocals on this one), "Nothing Is True", "Dream Domain" and perhaps even "Epitaph", which sounds vocalwise slightly different compared to the others. Actually this album is filled with catchy songs! Summed up: 'Into The Silence' is an excellent debut - and by far not every band from this wave of Finnish bands mentioned above is able to create something like this. If you like this
style, then this might be something for you.
