REVIEW: Seven Witches - Amped Regain Records, 2005
5/10
Seven Witches - Amped - cover art If you want to make a simple distinction there are three types of albums: good albums, bad albums and albums that require a certain taste to be liked. This album belongs to the latter. When it comes to judging this album I really don’t know what to write because it simply isn’t my taste but that doesn’t give me the right to tear this album apart. So let me try it this way: 7 Witches play a mix of old school metal and hard rock with hard rock being the stronger influence. The album is well-produced and technically speaking there isn’t anything to complain about. But when I listen to the songs I always wait for something to really get them started but unfortunately that doesn’t happen. “West Nile” has some really good riffs and a nice rhythm, “Sunnydale High” offers a little highlight for me because it was inspired by the TV show “Buffy the vampire slayer”, one of my favorite shows, and the ballad “Be” is probably the best song one the album. Lyricwise, there are lots of different topics ranging from the theory that the West Nile Virus is a terrorist-designed disease to the results of too much fame. The listener is giving enough to think about. Overall I have to say though that the album lacks something that makes you want to listen to it again. The songs are bit to slow, anything but catchy and I miss a certain pattern in the songs because at times they make the impression of randomly aligned fragments but everyone who likes rock might want to give this album a try despite my joyless words.
