REVIEW: Seventribe - demo cd Self-financed, 2002
7/10
Seventribe - demo cd - cover art Seventribe is a new Swedish band that was formed in 2000 in the town of Västerås in the middle of the country from the ashes of two other bands who broke up at that time. This demo cd contains material from the band's two demos, released in 2000 and 2001 respectively, and is in fact one of the most impressive demos I've received in a while within their genre. The thing is that Seventribe plays aggressive metal somewhere inbetween Machine Head and System Of A Down with very prominent hardcore influences, courtesy of the strong Swedish scene. I generally find this genre to be rather boring but luckily Seventribe is a very good band that still managed to impress on me. Perhaps I should have reviewed these two demos separately but since they are not that different musically I'm taking on both at the same time. Being a seven-piece band they are able to deliver a very powerful sound and I think that more bands should take use of the advantage of having several vocalists and three guitarists. These guys are all between the ages 20 and 25, an age suitable for a breakthrough, and they do deserve a record deal to tell you the truth straight out. I don't listen to this kind of music very much since it doesn't give me anything but I do admit that these demos contain some very nice material, especially the vocally more aggressive tracks "Wreckreation Camp", "Live In Vain" and "Head 2 This".
