REVIEW: Shadow Cut - Pictures Of Death Firebox Records, 2005
7/10
Shadow Cut - Pictures Of Death - cover art Shadow Cut is a new Finnish act that formed towards the end of 2002 by Omnio and Impaled Nazare drummer Reima Kellokoski, here going by the name "Repe F.W. Misanthrope". After having recorded a promo in early 2004 they were joined by Mitja Harvilahti of Moonsorrow. While the music of Shadow Cut is rooted mainly in the traditional black / death metal genre you can actually hear that Moonsorrow / Finntroll humppa sound on this disc as well. If you like the general idea of these bands but would like to hear something a lot rawer and more aggressive then Shadow Cut will be a blessing for you. Their debut album contains nine songs which are all similar in style, perhaps a little bit too similar, rather catchy but still brutal at the same time. There is a strong groove in their music which makes it perfect for banging your head to. If you feel an urge for brutal and vicious blackened death metal with a vibe to it you would want to give Shadow Cut a chance. A nice, solid album created by experienced extreme metal musicians.
