REVIEW: Shatter Messiah - Never To Play The Servant Dockyard 1, 2006
7.5/10
Shatter Messiah - Never To Play The Servant - cover art Curran Murphy has been working with well-known North American bands such as Annihilator and Nevermore but now he is taking the next step in his career by creating his own act. Apparently he has been heavily inspired by Nevermore in particular because the guitar sound and production found on the debut album of Shatter Messiah has a lot in common with the characteristic sound that has put his American colleagues among some of the hottest metal acts right now. As is the case with Nevermore the songs would not stand very well on their own without the addition of a stellar vocalist. The Warrel Dane of Shatter Messiah is called Greg Wagner, a name some of you metal fanatics may know from bands such as Breaker and Archetype. He is a very diverse front man who is able to handle everything from growls to high pitched shrieks. It is however his rough edged clean vocals that impresses most. Once in a while there is a slight gothic tinge shining through the intense guitar walls which adds another dimension to the sound. With "Never To Play The Servant" Shatter Messiah has made a promising first step into the metal scene. Stand-out tracks: "Never To Play", "Fear To Succeed", "All Sainted Sinners", "Drinking Joy", "Bleed To The Shadows".
