REVIEW: Sic Seed - [demo 2001] Sinternational Records, 2001
6/10
Sic Seed - [demo 2001] - cover art With a band name like Sic Seed I didn't really expect much from this Virginia based band but their first demo is actually pretty good. The production is professional which gives them a powerful sound. Demos today don't usually sound like they did ten years ago and some people claim that the underground is dead because of this (and for a lot of other reasons as well). I do not agree with this viewpoint and I'm only glad that more and more bands are able to make their demos sound good instead of putting out a thousand Darkthrone sounding tapes. It is hard to tell whether Sic Seed will make it big in the future from only a three-track demo but what I do know is that they are good at what they do. They don't really have an all original sound or a unique musical personality which is necessary today but they have completed three good songs which is at least a start towards something unknown. Their music of today sounds a little like older Napalm Death with grindcore screams coupled with a Pantera groove that is not heard very often. The second track also begins with a long spoken intro. The vocals are not really of my taste but their music isn't that bad at all. If you are a Pantera fan and don't mind a little bit of grindcore screams you might come to like these Americans.
