REVIEW: Sic Seed - Psychotic Bloodline Sinternational Records, 2004
7.5/10
Sic Seed - Psychotic Bloodline - cover art Being familiar with some of the material on this album, I knew what I was in for. Last year I reviewed a three song sampler from Sic Seed. With those three songs appearing on the full length, I was excited to get the full effect from the band.

I've listened to this album about six or seven times now. Each time I listen to it, it grows on me more and more. My initial reaction was that the band's sound is straight forward hardcore, with thrash elements. The atmosphere that the band creates is similar to Slipknot, with a Hatebreed crunch. After listening to it several times, the band is more than that. Sic Seed adds the element of surprise. Each song sounds similar to the previous, but they read differently. Meaning that the band isn't happy with the same formula in each song. At times you will get the crushing hardcore, then with no warning it seems like the Dillinger Escape Plan breaks out, and the band grinds through heavy double bass drumming. The vocals are psychotic, or mental whichever you prefer. The clean vocals which I complained about from the three song Promo are still present, but layered along with the corrosive shredding of the lead throat. This proves to have more impact!!

When I listened to the three song Promo, I wanted to hear more, because those songs were borderline insane. Sic Seed seemed to be a cool find. After listening to their full length album, I can safely say that those three songs "House of No Secrets", "Inhuman Existence", "Washed up God" still stand out as the most creative, most daring songs on the album. It's too bad that most bands these days feel they need to include the elements that the more mainstream metal bands are playing - Just to get noticed or signed.

Sic Seed are better than the hardcore that Hatebreed or Slipknot has churned out. I just hope they don't sell-out to that mass of people who only buy what the major music industry is feeding. Sic Seed if you’re reading continue on the path of “Disconnect”, that song is fucking heavy and punishes. Perfect end to a decent album.
