REVIEW: Siege Of Hate - Subversive By Nature New Aeon Media, 2004
7/10
Siege Of Hate - Subversive By Nature - cover art Siege Of Hate was born in April 1997 as a reaction to the current punk fashion trend of the time in Brazil. Eventually they became a well-known name in their country and this debut album was released in South America by Encore Records in October 2003. Now it is licenced for the rest of the world by Karmageddon Media's underground imprint New Aeon Media. "Subversive By Nature" is a mosh friendly death / grind affair that takes the best of early pioneers like Napalm Death and Terrorizer and adds a healthy amount of D.R.I. thrash. Brazilian metal is hardly anything unusual even for Europeans today the way it was when bands like Sarcófago and Sepultura were showing the way for a younger generation. Siege Of Hate are however more than capable of standing on their own and their wide ranger of musical influences (death / grind / thrash / hardcore / punk) will certainly make their music appeal to a wide fanbase. The songs are fast, tight and intense and aside from the 19 original compositions a suitable cover of D.R.I.'s "No Religion" has been included. Groovy death / grind performed with a punk attitude and a hardcore edge.
