REVIEW: Siegfried - Drachenherz Napalm Records, 2001
9.5/10
Siegfried - Drachenherz - cover art What a great album this band from Austria is offering us! And even if it's totally written in German, I think it adds a mystic flavor to a very special album. The name Siegfried means power and melody. This describes pretty well what these musicians are all about. The overture brings you right into the battlefields on wich the mighty warriors are fighting a bloody war. You can even ear on "Jerusalem" a sample of the hostilities. A beautiful medireview wind instrument is opening up this composition. As it is the case with most of the pieces, this one is a very powerful opus made of nasty guitars and stunt drumming. The death vocals on this album are very scary and even if I don't speak any German, understandable! Sandra Schleret formely from Dreams of Sanity is handling the female vocals parts in a very charming and sometimes agressive way. An "Heroic Male Vocalist" completes the trio. The perfect balance of Sieg and Fried is showing up by a coherent blend of heavy Doom guitar work, a touch of keyboards and a sublime acoustic guitar with such an incredible sound. "Hexenblut" is a dramatic masterpiece with a very melodic opening, a more symphonic and theatrical mid section ending under a dark sky. This journey ends on a Gothic note embellished by a medireview diva backed by outstanding guitars and piano arrangements. This is not just another Power Metal album but rather a strong and beautiful series of Gothic impressions.
