REVIEW: Sinclined - Scattered Self-financed, 2005
7/10
Sinclined - Scattered - cover art A good release by this young Finnish band Sinclined which was formed in the spring of 2004 and last year they recorded "Scattered", their first demo. Their sound is kind of hard to describe, but we can say that they play melodic death metal with some progressive metal influences. Try to imagine Omnium Gatherum, with some clean vocals and the keyboard work of Children of Bodom and you will get Sinclined. All the band members show some skill on this release, but what impressed me the most were the keyboards. Janne Hemilä not only shares the first name with the great keyboardist Janne Warman (Children of Bodom) but he is a great keyboard player too. Very impressive. The guitar work is very good too, especially the guitar & keyboard duels. They remind me of Norther, Kalmah, Imperanon and... Children of Bodom. The rhythm section is acceptable. Nothing really special, but not bad. The big problem here is the vocal performance of Tom Nuorivaara. He is clearly not a good growler and not a great singer either, but he is a good guitar player, that's for sure. The band should get a better vocalist and let Tom concentrete on guitars. Best Tracks: Scattered; New Victim. Pros: Riffs, solos & duels, song structures, keyboards. Cons: Production, vocals.
