If you know Tristania, then you know Morten Veland. Sirenia
is his new band and actually it's almost a one man band we're discovering
here. This musician wrote, composed, arranged, co-produced and mixed this
outstanding musical treat. All the music is performed by him except for the
violin parts played by Pete Johansen. Besides that, a couple of clean male
singers and a french female vocalist by the name of Fabienne Gondamin, were
called in to bring in some extra highlights into this rich scenery. The sun
was completely risen by a fantastic choir to fully brighten this vocal
spectrum. I'm just amazed at how talented and gifted this Morten is. All the
fans, including myself, of Tristania, will be delighted by this album. The
people helping him on this recording were also involved with the famous Gothic
band giving a feeling of sonic familiarity to it. And of course, the great
death vocalist and his own type of guitar playing will make you feel right
where you belong: in musical heaven. This album is actually closer to "Beyond
The Veil" for the obvious reason that he was behind half of the compositions.
Even if sounding heavier with more death than angelic female vocals being
used, it remains nonetheless an exquisite and symphonic Gothic experience. I
can only hope to hear more of Fabienne's vocal expressions on the next album,
because even if she's no Vibeke, she still has a very pleasant and nice voice
full of human warmth and charm that can be enjoyed on "In Sumerian Haze"
where she does the lead singing on a beautiful ballad composed of calm
acoustic guitar and violin partitions. The reigning Royal family of the Gothic
realm are better be prepared because Sirenia has jut joined the Royal court. I
was personally impressed by songs like "Meridian", "On The Wane", "Manic
Aeon", to name a few goodies.
