REVIEW: Sky Bleeds Black - Blindfolds , 2007
2.5/10
Sky Bleeds Black - Blindfolds - cover art Nice enough chaps, I’m sure, these German five, playing what is presumably their first love in musical terms: metallic hardcore of a Hatebreedy, Earth Crisisy, Heaven Shall Burny nature. It’s probably no better or worse than a thousand other bands plying the same riffs on either side of the Atlantic. But therein lies the rub: there are almost certainly a thousand other bands doing it, though I can’t be arsed to muster the head count that would make my claim leap from the conjectural to the literal. Suffice to say, Sky Bleeds Black offers not a whit of variation, originality or distinction. The five songs come and go in under fifteen minutes, all adhering/pandering to mosh-oriented protocol. In 1997, this might have slated really nicely between spins of the new Deadguy and Vision of Disorder records, but nowadays, unless it’s imbued with some personality – or, like, some reeeeally boss hoodies – it’s left withering on the vine. Speaking of merch, for a band around since 2003 to have only five songs recorded yet two t-shirts pressed for sale...well, I’ll let you decide what that means.
