REVIEW: Skyclad - The Answer Machine Massacre Records, 1997
9/10
Skyclad - The Answer Machine - cover art Even though this is one of the softest Skyclad albums it still shows all the wonderful trademarks of the band - humorous and witty lyrics, beautiful melodies with flutes and fiddles and, this time not as much as before, heavy metal rhythms. Today there are quite a few bands mixing folk music with metal but there are extremely few who do it as well as the British people that make up Skyclad. In June 2001 the band's vocalist and lyricist Martin Walkyrier unfortunately left the band but this will not put an end to it. What would be devastating is if the female member George Biddle decided to leave because her contribution is one of the most important elements that makes Skyclad so special. There is no doubt that this is one of the most creative and unconventional metal bands, something clearly shown on "Troublesometimes". As I've already told you this is perhaps the softest Skyclad album so far and this leads to some of the songs being a little bit boring in the end. "Isle Of Jura" is saved from complete disaster only by Biddle's viola playing. Altogether this is a great album in all aspects and if you are not scared of new influences in metal go get this one right away.
