REVIEW: Slavior - Slavior InsideOut Music, 2007
6/10
Slavior - Slavior - cover art Slavior was created during 2005 by Fates Warning drummer Mark Zonder and they were set to release this album via the Greek label Black Lotus Records but the label collapsed in June 2006. It has taken a while but now "Slavior" is finally released through InsideOut Music. InsideOut is a label that is usually associated with progressive music but this is quite different from most other acts who are signed to the label. While the experimental escapades of Fates Warning are definitely a band befitting the InsideOut image this entity panders more to the public so to speak. There are clear progressive elements in the music but it never becomes too complex for the regular rock fan to enjoy the melodic songs. Both song writing and the vocal performance has been heavily influenced by the American modern rock scene. Unfortunately this is a genre that these guys do not master 100%. The ten songs presented on their debut album are ok but nothing of it sticks to your mind after having listened to the album which is absolutely necessary for this type of music if it is to succeed with its purpose. A decent debut but there are so many other bands in this genre who do their own thing and this feels far from original. Now I just want to grab myself a Fates Warning album and put in the stereo.
