REVIEW: Slayer - God Hates Us All American Recordings, 2001
8/10
Slayer - God Hates Us All - cover art Slayer is a band that never stops surprising me. Album after album they keep up the intensity and power and the new album has a lot of similarities to the classic "Reign In Blood" even though they have mixed the old sound with newer influences. Slayer is one of the few big names from the 80's who still stay true to metal and there is no doubt that "God Hates Us All" is all about metal which can be discussed with for example the latest releases from Metallica. Tom Araya continues to scream his lungs off and this is the only thing you can grow tired of with Slayer. I recently saw them live in Stockholm and after having heard Amorphis, In Flames and Cradle Of Filth right before you can easily get slightly annoyed with his voice. Even though this is a great album I can't help to notice that Slayer have become heavier and slightly slower over the years but the vocals from Araya still keep the intensity on a very high level. Tracks like "God Send Death" and "Exile" will however make sure that old fans of the band will not be disappointed with their new release. The mighty kings of thrash metal are back and they are certainly not ready to give up just yet. This is probably one of their darkest and heaviest releases as of now but I miss some of the speed and amazing technical show-offs from their earlier albums. Slayer is still Slayer though.
