REVIEW: Slipknot - Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses Roadrunner Records, 2004
9/10
Slipknot - Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses - cover art I don't know where to start. I have been waiting for this album quite some time now and exepected a new "Iowa". Fast and fucking angry that is. But when I first heard the opening track "Prelude 3.0" I just knew something was odd, it was slow and painful, no anger at all. The carnage I was expecting suddenly came out of nowhere when the second track "The blister exits" launched. At first I just hated it and I spoke some very hard words about this album but still I couldn't stop listening to it over and over again and with each listening I discovered something new. There is just too much in this one single album to easily describe it. The usual Slipknot sound is here with loads and loads of drums, but also slow and painful songs (with acoustic guitar and violins!!!). The first single of the album is "Duality" which you could call "Left Behind 2" if you want to, a good song with a chorus that glues itself to your mind, still maintaining the fact that Slipknot is a heavy music playing band. My absolute favorites on this one are "Vermillion" and "Vermillion pt 2" which is basically the same song split into one heavy part and one acoustic. Many people are still sceptic about Slipknot but I can't understand how anyone could do that anymore, not after "Vol 3". You just can't do it any longer, my guess is that Slipknot has taken the first real step into becoming real legends. They are here, they are kicking your ass, they make you cry and yell in both anger and axienty at the same time, they are here to stay and WILL NOT be forgotten. I'll just go ahead and say it: "Vol.3: The subliminal Verses is a true masterpiece.
