REVIEW: Society's Finest - And I, The Drunkards Alveran Records, 2006
7/10
Society's Finest - And I, The Drunkards - cover art Society's Finest have been playing together for eight years now but “And I, The Drunkards” is the first full-length album from the band. In 2003 they took a break from each other and during to pass the time the vocalist toured as the singer of ZAO. When the band got back together they released the EP “Love, Murder, and a Three Letter Word” which received praise from the audience as well as the critics. On their album debut Society's Finest have surpassed themselves, making music with more intensity and passion than ever seen from the band before. The opening track hits you in the head like a sledgehammer with solid riffs, darkness and anger. And it just gets better and better. The vocalist Joshua Ashworth manages menacing growls just as skilled as he takes on the melodic singing. The result is music that best can be described as metalcore with a melodic touch but don’t let that label scare you away. Society's Finest have succeeded in making an diverse and varied album which incorporate so many different metal genres and hardcore that there is something for everyone in here. Still, the result is not uneven in any way. This is a really good debut album and I look forward to hearing more from this band ahead.
