REVIEW: Soilwork - The Chainheart Machine Listenable Records, 1999
8.5/10
Soilwork - The Chainheart Machine - cover art Sweden has always been able to produce metal bands of high quality and among the absolute best are Soilwork from Helsingborg in the south of the country. They were formed in 1995 and this is their second album in their promising career. Soilwork are among the bands who have continued the tradition of technical and melodic death metal that At The Gates and other bands started. While bands like In Flames and Dark Tranquillity have become softer with each new release bands like The Haunted and Soilwork maintain the brutality and energy that made At The Gates a band that nobody will forget. This release is a lot more intense and powerful than all At The Gates releases (that doesn't mean that it's better though) and there is no doubt that this band belongs in the metal elite. If you are a fan of technical and melodic death / thrash metal than this is definitely a band I would recommend. "The Chainheart Machine" is perhaps their best album ever. It has it all - brutality, great vocals, speed, melody and, above all, high quality music at the highest level.
