REVIEW: Solekahn - Suffering Winds (EP) Imperial Maze, 2002
6/10
Solekahn - Suffering Winds (EP) - cover art The French black metal band Solekahn have since its creation in 1994 been known under the names Convey and Soul Stealer before changing their name to Solekahn in 1999. I don't have a clue what the band name means but I don't think many of you care much about that anyway... You are probably more interested in knowing what kind of music they perform. Black metal bands are often known to make their songs quite long but this is not the case with these French guys. I don't understand the reason why they have made their songs so short and a couple of them end very abruptly just when they have started to get real interesting. It seems like this mini album could have been so much more than it currently is and I think the band should put their mind to creating a more coherent album next time. This album isn't really mediocre but it doesn't impress me that much either with the obvious exception of the fourth track "Profaned Nights" which is excellent until it comes to a harsh end. "In Dementia" is also a pretty good song. The production is a little thin but it doesn't hurt the music that much. If Solekahn could make their music a little more varied I would probably appreciate them more. If you like intense black or brutal death metal you will probably still find something to enjoy here, at least I did.
