REVIEW: Solfernus - Diabolical Phenomenon Self-financed, 2003
8.5/10
Solfernus - Diabolical Phenomenon - cover art Good old stop-at-nothing brutal Death metal. Just when you thought that songs you’ve heard 5 years ago are the last original things you’ll hear in this genre Solfernus step in. It’s interesting that all music here is written by Igor, guitarist of pagan black metalers Root, what a style difference. About what you will hear here, well it’s rather furious, storming Death metal with excellent guitar riffs that you even can remember after listening once. Not once you’ll witness slower tempo full of strength, or on other hand mysticism. Drums are following if not leading the race, they deal with standard solutions for accompanying the guitar, but they are suitable. Drummer, Sigbjorn Erik Thorsen is, unlike rest of the band, from Norway and is listed as special guest. Still, music is not only about brutality and speed records as some great guitar solos are incorporated here, a s well as some nice catchy melodies that expand this bands horizons in fields where brutality is minion. Solfernus had 2 guests on guitar solos it’s Ashok of Root and Iggy Mores of XYZ. I support this decision as it obviously brought a lot of quality and artistry to Diabolical Phenomenon. About vocals, well they are also standard, not so beastly growling, rather more malicious. Diabolical Phenomenon consists of five songs and lasts about 24 minutes. Production is excellent, everything is hearable (even some keyboards here and there), enjoyable and mighty.
