REVIEW: Somnifere - Audioporn Massacre Records, 2001
7/10
Somnifere - Audioporn - cover art Think Machine Head. Think Rammstein. Think forging these two bands into one solid blast of pure aggression, electronic creativity and some beautiful guitar melodies and you are pretty close to the sound which the six Germans of Somnifere have produced with their debut album. The band was first formed in 1995 and has recorded two demos ("The Flight" and "Condemned") prior to this release and has developed from being a gothic band to an electro-thrash-industrial metal band over these years. Some left-over gothic influences can still be heard in the music though with the dragging vocals on the first track and dark clean vocals (very effective ones) on several tracks. In my opinion this is one of the best and most refreshing releases so far this year and it is nice to see that Europe is able to compete with the Limp Bizkit/Korn/Soulfly scene without leaving the "true" metal fans behind. I think "Audioporn" will appeal to fans of Machine Head and/or Rammstein as well as to all other metal fans because of the thrashier sound. And, remember, this is the first porn that really satisfies. There is definitely more to come from Somnifere and I´m excited to hear what they can do next time.
