I am glad to see how South American bands have evolved through the last few years and how, at the same time been getting more interest and recognition from scenes abroad, this has been the case with such acts as Krisiun, Internal Suffering, Criminal, Under Threat and some others. Well, I guess with some luck and promotion Souledge, a 5 piece from Pereira - Colombia, will soon gain some interest from Death Metal aficionados around the globe with their debut album entitled 'Exterminate The World'. Although recorded last year, ETW is a 2004 release, which contains 11 tracks of catchy Death Metal in which I feel a strong At The Gates influence, mixed with elements of bands like Gorguts and Kataklysm. This is definitely not the new metal revelation but it's an album in which you will enjoy the feeling and technical abilities Souledge have to offer with their mix of guttural and high pitched vocals, catchy riffs that just make me want to bang my head, and total hate… The one thing that I like a lot about this band is their riffs, they can drive you through different emotions and be very brutal yet technical which is a characteristic that I admire, obviously I can tell you this is not one of those monotonous albums that reek of lack of creativity in which all songs sound the same or like a rip off of some well known band, and if we add the blend of European and American Death Metal these guys accomplish on "Exterminate The World", the result is a very good album worth being in your CD collection.
