REVIEW: Soulless - Agonys Lament Worldchaos Production, 2002
7/10
Soulless - Agonys Lament - cover art Soulless is a band from Cleveland, USA, who have been active since the mid 90's. Now they have finished work on their second album entitled "Agony's Lament". Not that the title itself means that much to anyone but I have never been that amazed with lyrics for music in general with a few exceptions. The Japanese label World Chaos Production is one of the few lesser known labels in the world who manage to produce albums of very high quality. This is also the case with the new Soulless album. The production is sharp as a knife thanks to Bill Koreckey and The Mars Recording studio and the musicianship is very good too. The only problem with this album is that the songs are all to similar to each other and there is no track that really sticks out from the rest. This is often a problem with thrash metal bands but it is not necessarily a bad thing. Soulless perform the harsher form of thrash metal and show resemblances to several Swedish bands like The Haunted and Carnal Forge although their sound is not quite as dense and elaborate. These Americans still do a fine job with their second album and if you enjoy well performed thrash metal then this is for you. Nothing new, nothing amazing but a more than decent second effort from a band who take their music seriously.
