REVIEW: Southern Isolation - Southern Isolation Baphomet Records, 2001
6/10
Southern Isolation - Southern Isolation - cover art Behind the name Southern Isolation we find the American musician and singer Stephanie Opal Weinstein. Just to give you a hint at what kind of music this is I'd like to say that this is a lot more depressive pop music than metal or even rock. The album was produced by Philip Anselmo (yes, the same as in Pantera) who also helped Opal out with some additional guitars. I can't help thinking that she must be a close friend of him because I find it hard to believe that this kind of music would appeal to metal fans in general. I myself am not overly excited about this release but I have to admit that she has a very deep and beautiful voice. If the music itself would have been more melodic and powerful I think this could have been a very nice album but now it feels a little thin. The opening track is nice though since it shows the full vocal talents of this beautiful girl. I wish Opal all the best in the future but I unfortunately doubt that she will have another album released on BaphometHousecore. If you are a big fan of acoustic music with a lot of atmosphere and emotions then you might enjoy this album more than I did.
