REVIEW: Specter - Images Of The Innocent Valiant Music, 1999
7.5/10
Specter - Images Of The Innocent - cover art The quality of the vocals is often the thing which separates a band from the lot. Specter is a Russian band with some of the best vocals I´ve heard in a while (from a new unknown band that is) and they actually have a little bit of a Martin Walkyrier (Skyclad) touch to them. Otherwise they do not have that many similarites to Skyclad apart from both of them being metal bands. Now that I have praised the vocals you might wonder if there is something else but nice vocals on this album and I will now tell you that there most certainly is. Specter plays a rather straight-forward form of heavy metal with a hard rock groove as well as both progressive and folk music influences. The guitar riffs are both heavy and creative and the music is exciting and everchanging throughout the album which means that it never becomes boring. These six guys are definitely very talented musicians and I suspect that Specter is one of the leading metal bands to hail out of Russia at the moment. Again I have to admit that my knowledge of the Russian metal scene is rather limited. With a good production and very dramatic vocals this album has the potential to create a euphoric state of mind that will not fade away easily. Specter proves the fact that Russia has a lot to offer the world of metal and this release will not leave the world indifferent.
