Spetälsk is the Swedish word for "leprosy" and it is also the name of a Swedish black metal band spearheaded by multiinstrumentalist Zetterberg. He is aided by vocalist R. Karlsson and Misericordia drummer Endymion on this recording alongside session musicians Petter Nilson and Fredrik Blomqvist. The band released a self-titled two-track EP in 2003 and now they are ready to unleash four new black hymns upon the world. The two opening songs "Your Soul I Will Torture For All Eternity" and "Perverted Commandment" are fine examples of pure satanic art and they show a progression in the song writing capabilities of the band since their previous release. The music is dark, atmospheric, misanthropic and very intense. Compared to the previous EP Spetälsk has taken a more than welcome leap forward, if not huge then at least a noticeable one. The guitar riffs follow each other in a more logic sense, each song is very coherent and the drums are tight and right in place. Fans of old-school Norwegian black metal or the early material from Dark Funeral should appreciate what Spetälsk are doing today. It is primitive, raw and completely devoid of joy but that's the way we want it, right? Let pain and misery rule the world with an iron hand.
