REVIEW: Spite Extreme Wing - Non Dvcor, Dvco Behemoth Productions, 2004
7/10
Spite Extreme Wing - Non Dvcor, Dvco - cover art The Italian death metal band Antropofagus has been quiet since the release of an EP in 2001 but Argento has been active with a black metal band called Spite Extreme Wing. Their debut album "Magnificat" was released in 2003 and was well received by the underground media, resulting in the recording of this follow-up. I haven't heard the debut but this album is composed of pretty enjoyable, mid-paced black metal with sparse use of eerie keyboards. The riffs are usually simple but efficient and the songs are built with care and a taste for the black arts. Hypnotic, raw and aggressive yet not without structure nor memorable moments, Spite Extreme Wing will be sure to lure a few more souls away from the deceiving light. Lyrically the Italians have been inspired by the works of Julius Evola (1898-1974) for this album. Evola was an Italian esotericist who wrote plenty about many different subjects, ranging from politics to religion but always from a traditionalist point of view. If you think that the Norwegian black metal scene has turned its back on itself then look south and maybe you will find what you're looking for. If nothing so at least well done primitive black metal. Ready to be hypnotized?
