Steel Attack’s fifth studio album “Diabolic Symphony” kicks in with the title song. Despite the good intro, I don’t like the string-ensemble type keys present throughout the whole song. Other than that, it’s a very good opener, with quite some power and so far I haven’t had the urge to turn off my CD player.
The guitar parts on the second song “Dead Forever” are great, blasting with speed and melody. There’s just one downside to the song. The guitar solo doesn’t fit in well enough to make it and outstanding song. It sounds as though the song needs a solo to be great, but failing to make it so. A little less up-tempo is the next song “Shallow Seas of Hatred”, and potentially one of the best songs on the album. Unlike the two previous songs, there’s nothing present that sounds awkward. Another brilliant song on this album is “Sanctimonious” of which the intro is by far the best on this album. Brilliant keys, mixed with the atmosphere typical to this album. Though I would have liked the song to speed up even more after the into, it’s still one of my favourites on this album. Not only do the guys from Steel Attack possess the necessary musical skills, lyricwise it’s not bad either. Especially the lyrics on “Dreaming” are brilliant.
For those already familiar with Steel Attack, and their last album “Enslaved” (2004), there is not much new on this album, though it is still a very good release. For those not familiar with Steel Attack, though fans of power metal, I’d recommend you to check out this album, or perhaps both this one and “Enslaved”.
