First of all I must let you know that the label made quite an interesting contradiction on the back of this promo cd. They let me know that the new Steel Attack album should not be compared at all with the old albums as this is the best band the band has released so far. How can you possible tell without comparing it to the older ones? Well, now I've had my fun, let's be serious from here. "Enslaved" is the fourth album from the band but the first to feature new vocalist Ronny Hemlin who is actually the brother of famous Swedish folk singer Nordman. Pre "Predator Of The Empire" from 2003 I was that impressed by this Swedish power metal band but they took a leap forward with that album and therefore I was eager to hear their latest offering as well. Line-up changes usually affects a band in one or several ways but even though guitarist John Allan Forssén is the only remaining original member left in the band by now, Steel Attack have managed to maintain their sound.
The new vocalist Ronny Hemlin was chosen wisely as he blends in with the rest of the band extremely well and has quite a wide register, not relying solely on the usual high-pitched power metal vocals. Steel Attack has not taken another leap forward with this album but they have built a solid fortress where they stand right now and "Enslaved" is a very good album with several sing-along choruses and without ballads. It doesn't have an obvious hit song such as "Heavy Metal God" from the previous album but instead the overall quality has reached a notch higher I think. Stand-out tracks: "Out Of The Flames", "Bless My Sins", "Enslaved".
