REVIEW: Steel Attack - Predator Of The Empire Arise Records, 2003
7.5/10
Steel Attack - Predator Of The Empire - cover art Having left their former label AFM Records the Swedish band Steel Attack unleashes their third album through the Spanish label Arise Records. This band hails from the same part of Sweden as Carnal Forge, Centinex, Katatonia and In Thy Dreams but unlike these they play power metal of the heavier school. The first half of this album is actually of very high quality and they have grown a little heavier since their previous release. Heavier does not necessarily mean better but in this case it does. The new vocalist does his job very well even though his voice sounds a little strained at times. Plenty of sharp riffing, past paced drumming and sing-along choruses will surely make fans of the genre happy but is this interesting for any of us who do not only listen to heavy / power metal? I would answer this question with a simple yes. Steel Attack has got what it takes, they are good song writers and they have a strong voice behind the microphone. I especially fell in love with the anthem-like "Heavy Metal God" which is clearly the highlight of the album for me despite the simple chorus and cheesy lyrics. Unfortunately the second half of the album lacks the quality of the first half and it gets a little boring in the end. Steel Attack is still a band worth to check out if you are into heavy / power metal and would like to listen to something heavier than Edguy.
