Steve Kachinsky has been around with his band Steel Prophet
since the early eighties but it wasn´t until ten years later that they started
releasing any albums. Now the major German label Nuclear Blast is about to
release the band´s 7th full-length album entitled "Book Of The Dead". You
can clearly hear where the band have found their musical inspiration - bands
like Accept, Iron Maiden and Helloween easily come to mind. Even though Steel
Prophet is a power metal band they are from America and therefore fortunately
don´t sound like all the European Helloween wannabe bands. Instead of relying
on old recipes they have found their very own brew mixing the best of thrash,
power and the old 80s heavy metal. The result is a smashing hit that will not
only satisfy old fans of the band but also without a doubt gain a number of
new ones. The most important strengths of this band are first of all the
amazing vocals by Rick Mythiasin, secondly the technical playing and third but
not least important the ability to create intriguing songs with a very
emotional atmosphere and still keeping it heavy. The old heroes Black Sabbath
and Iron Maiden should be very proud of what these Americans have produced.
There is not question about it: this is the best heavy/power metal release for
some time now. Together with the new Dimmu Borgir album this is also the best
album of the year so far. Listen to this album and you will instantly be
enchanted by the beautiful choruses. Definitely a
must-have.
