REVIEW: Stereotypical Working Class - Illusions Boycott Records, 2003
5/10
Stereotypical Working Class - Illusions - cover art A band with the name Stereotypical Working Class doesn't really spark the interest in me and I did not expect much from this release when I first sat down to listen to it. I usually try to begin listening to an album with an open mind and no expectations at all but I don't always succeed in doing this. However, I was partly right this time. Hailing from the Lyon area in France, these guys are one of the first signings to the newly formed label Boycott Records whose owners Next Music probably believes firmly in this band. Stereotypical Working Class is pretty much a family affair since the band consists of both brothers and cousins who have been playing together since the foundation of the band in 1999. This is nu-metal with some hardcore influences and not really that originaly except maybe for the use of French lyrics. Heavy straightforward guitar riffs and a good deal of melancholy in the vocal department is what characterizes this disc. Kind of a mix of Korn, System Of A Down and Deftones but still it doesn't sound like either of these bands. Unfortunately there are no songs that really stick to my collection of memories and the cd comes off as rather grey and uninteresting. The music is well played though and could be of interest to those of you who are big fans of nu-metal in general.
