After a break of 8 years (1994-2002), one of heavy metal’s most productive bands Stormwitch, release their second album since their reunion, entitled “Witchcraft”. The typical 80s heavy metal is most present, from the first few notes of “The Sinister Child”. Fortunately, just before it gets boring, I get a little up-tempo fill-in, and then it once again turns back to the slow metal riff, I’ve heard on so many occasions. Though the songs are not bad at all, it sounds a little too familiar and I can name a dozen songs which are so alike one wouldn’t be able to tell them apart, except for the lyrical parts. Luckily some more variety is present on the next song “At the break of this day”, which reminds me a lot of one of King Diamond’s songs. However, the production doesn’t seem that tight during the verses. And even though the vocalist is very good, a little more variety in speed would have been warmly welcomed. “Until the War will end” is one of the highlights on this album. It’s a bit faster than the previous songs, and all in all it sounds better production wise. Overall the album is not bad, it's a typical Stormwitch Heavy Metal album, although I think it would do much better if it had been released ten years earlier. To me, it sounds a bit too cliché and most of it has been done before. Of course Stormwitch have produced a lot of great material for the Heavy Metal world, I wonder whether their reunion in 2002 was a very good thing or not.
