REVIEW: Street Dogs - Fading American Dream Brass Tacks Records, 2006
1/10
Street Dogs - Fading American Dream - cover art A blend of Irish folk and punk rock, no this is not Dropkick Murphys, this is Street Dogs with the third full length “Fading American Dream”. There are a lot of Dropkick Murphys in the sound, not surprisingly since the lead singer Mike McColgan has a history in that band. The album kicks off with a battle cry for the common people, and that sets the standard for the lyrics that consistently deal with the ordinary people, the working-class. The music follows the same concept that the band used on previous releases. It is short, catchy songs with hook and a sing-along refrain that everybody can shout along to. I’m not even sure if that concept is good in theory any longer, or perhaps it is. But it requires that the band has the ability to make the listeners feel the energy and smell the sweat when they turn on the music. Street Dogs lack that skill and therefore their music is quite uninteresting on album.
