REVIEW: Suicidal Angels - Bloodthirsty Humanity Self-financed, 2004
7/10
Suicidal Angels - Bloodthirsty Humanity - cover art This young band comes from Greece and fortunately they´re not another bunch of Rotting Christ followers, which is the most common thing to find when hearing a band from that country. The music played by these guys in this EP is thrash metal the old school way. This is not modern thrash with experiments nor ornaments, but stuff played by people fond of the classic bands of the genre; and it´s great to see that there are still people willing to play this type of music. As far as the music is concerned, one usually separates German thrash metal from the American one, and in order to explain my thoughts on this album in a clearer way, I´ll say Suicidal Angels lean on the American side. This doesn´t mean they haven´t some European elements on their performance, but Slayer is mainly the influence here. The vocals are not very Araya-inspired, however, and they are more in the vein of the German gods Sodom (first albums). “Bloodthirsty humanity” is straight forward and simple, but everything is on its place. Production is correct and the tracks flow with no remorse. I´d say a certain lack of variety is what I notice, for example in some drum passages, but taking into account they are new in the scene and this is just their beginning, that´s something absolutely normal. Suicidal Angels concentrate on mid/fast tempos without achieving breakneck speed but they are aggressive enough to make you headbang for a while or simply move your feet following the drums pace. Definitely an interesting band that has some good things to offer in the future if they keep up the good work.
