This is actually just a re-release of the limited double LP album from ’98 now on CD with two bonus tracks that originally are to be found on the ‘Tormentor’ EP. Perhaps you don’t need any intro on Svartsyn, unlike me, since the first thing they wrote about themselves on their website is that they are ‘cult’ so I guess all of you know they are from Sweden and have four albums by now ("Bloodline" is the 2nd) and that Draugen, formerly of Dark Funeral, is a regular drummer here. Certainly, Svartsyn have nothing to do with DF, there are just a few fast, blast beat outbursts on the entire album, which is a pity, having Draugen's previous work in mind. 'Bloodline' is a slower, more old-school Black Metal release reminding somewhat of Burzum or Graveland, but also with a hint of r’n’r in riffs and song structure. One of the things you are to notice first is the bizarre, moody production of guitars and some fuzz in behind of things being played (that might be bass guitar I guess) that can distract some attention from music, but also creates a specific atmosphere, which was probably their aim. The music is somewhat predictable as the band states in presentation, so no big changes in what you hear through the entire album, mid tempo BM with dominant guitars and drums in the back; some songs have more cymbals and lead guitar melodies differ, but that’s about it, drums are constant and the rhythm guitar as well, so it does get ‘nail-in-the-head’ monotonous after a while. As for bonus songs from ‘Tormentor’, they are faster and even dirtier than the rest of the stuff (and I like ‘em more!). I guess for all lovers of Graveland, Nargaroth and similar acts this might be interesting, for others probably not.
