After some time
of hard work and invocation of the dark spirits the Swedes of Svartsyn have
finally completed their third full-length album so far and their second on the
Portuguese label Sound Riot Records. With an album title like "Destruction Of
Man" it is not difficult to guess that these misanthropes are black metal
enthusiasts. Performing the black arts is not really the core of innovation
today but Svartsyn, or at least band leader Ornias, have been among us way
back since 1991. Having the former Dark Funeral drummer Draugen in the band
have probably done some to make the band more well known on the metal scene
but the music itself is certainly capable of promoting the band just as good.
Ornias is for sure one of the most talented people in the black metal world
and he has composed all music on this album. Svartsyn performs intense and
aggressive black metal which is still very melodic and dynamic. Brutal and
devastating, fast and sinister with a tasteful touch of melody this album have
really made an impression on me. Almost every single track has a powerful
drive that makes it sound very intense and it makes you never lose interest in
the music. Having had more than ten years of experience Ornias have created
one of the finest black metal releases that have ever left Swedish ground. If
you mix the powerful drive of Carpathian Forest with the speed and melody of
Swedish black metal you get Svartsyn. A wonderful and coherent release that
stands as one of the best metal albums in 2003 so
far.
