REVIEW: Symphony X - Twilight in Olympus Inside Out Music, 1998
9/10
Symphony X - Twilight in Olympus - cover art A great piece of classic prog metal from the American band Symphony X. Unlike most bands on the progmetal scene Symphony X manages to create something original that separates them from the lot. This album is filled with fast heavy and very melodic music and has some great vocal lines done by Russell Allen. It's not a surprise that Allen has been chosen to do vocals on one of the latest Ayreon rock opera projects - he has a great voice and also has the ability to create very nice vocal melodies instead of just singing straight out. I don't like most progressive bands that much but Symphony X is definitely a band to check out, even if you're not really into this style of music. The only thing I have to remark on is that in my opinion these bands get a little boring during the slower passages in their songs from time to time but otherwise this is a very nice release to say the least. The album was recorded at Trax East and The Symphony X Dungeon.
