REVIEW: Symphorce - Godspeed Metal Blade Records, 2005
7/10
Symphorce - Godspeed - cover art Symphorce can be considered as one of the most underrated bands of European scene. Although they release albums since 1999, they are never mentioned amongst the leading acts of european power metal genre. Godspeed is the band’s fifth full-length and as usual, they deliver a solid effort of modern power metal. They are injecting small doses of modern sounds and approaches to their music for years. And this latest effort is again in some ways sound very traditional and in some ways very modern (and quite American sometimes). Andy B. Franck is a great singer, there’s no doubt about it. But he has a quite busy schedule with his two bands(Brainstorm and Symphorce)and i think, this makes him a little bit exhausted in terms of creativity. You can hear the signs quite obviously through out the album, Godspeed. The vocal lines he wrote, will sound really familiar if you have listened to the older releases of his two bands. Cedric C. Dupond and Markus Pohl, the two axemen, are in top form. They play very tight and with the help of production, the guitars sound really heavy. And what’s more never lack creativity. The album is again produced by the band at the House Of Music studios and again the overall sound quality of the album is amazing. You should give some credits to the two men behind the mixing desk for it. Dennis Ward and Achim Köhler. They did a great job as usual. Symphorce is one of the bands that has its own identity, but with their latest effort the band seems to lost this speciality. “Everlasting Life” (it has a great guitar solo), “No Shelter” and “Wounds Will Last Within”(with its amazing vocal lines, and bay area style riffage) are the highlights of the album. “The Haunting”, “The Mirrored Room” with its bluesy riffs, “Black Water” with its industrial samples reminding Korn and Marilyn Manson are the surprises of the album. Although lacking some creativity when compared to the other albums released by the band, Godspeed is still an above the average effort. Worth checking out.
