REVIEW: System Of A Down - Toxicity American Recordings, 2001
9.5/10
System Of A Down - Toxicity - cover art This is the metal album that everyone is talking about at the moment and I am sure a lot of top lists for the year will have it among the top five. I don't think "Toxicity" is the best album of the year but it is definitely among them. I don't think there are any other band in the world who sounds the way System Of A Down does. How many metal bands consist of people of Armenian descent? It is great to see people of different backgrounds discovering the beauty of metal music. System Of A Down might very well be classified as nu-metal but for those of you who don't like this I can calm you down by saying that they sound completely different from all other bands. The music of this album is of course nice and heavy metal but it is not that spectacular. The thing that makes System Of A Down so special is instead the very unusual vocal approach which is at least partly a result of the origin of the members. I also like the lyrics a lot since they are very socially aware. If you are to buy just one album this year I would perhaps not recommend this one but it is great. The only thing I don't like is that the songs are a little too short...
