REVIEW: Taake - ...Bjoergvin... Wounded Love Records, 2002
7/10
Taake - ...Bjoergvin... - cover art Taake is from Norway, Taake plays black metal. Do you feel any déja vu's coming your way? Well, to tell you the truth I wasn't very excited when I sat down to listen to this cd since I expected something that I had already heard a hundred times before from other bands before them. Truth to tell this album is not really a unique recording since Taake plays cold Darkthrone inspired black metal with a raw production. There are some piano melodies that might surprise some people though. To be as true and evil as possible is still the goal to aim for if you are a Norwegian black metal band but I would have liked to see something more daring from this band, not just because their name is Taake but because we all need to feel that metal is still in progress. I still have to admit that I was slightly impressed with this recording since Taake is more or less the project of one man and was created in 1993 under the name Thule. After recording and releasing several demos through his own Mosegrodd Productions he signed a deal with the Italian Avantgarde Music and released the debut album "Nattestid..." in 1999. I am very glad to hear that he has managed to capture the Darkthrone atmosphere in its purest form with this second album and create some tracks full of haunting melodies and creepy vocals. Taake delivers a nice solid black metal release that should be of interest to most fans of Darkthrone. Cold, raw, atmospheric and hateful, just the way Norwegian black metal was meant to be like.
