It doesn´t happen that a modern black metal album gets my attention, tired as I am of ultraboring "evil" bands that arise in the scene every day. But I can simply say that Taake one of the best bands that the cold and misty mountains of Norway have ever produced. This their first full-length album is a magnificent piece of music. On the first hand it´s an album weird to the eye: a long-nailed guy appears on the cover, clad in a deep shadow. Songtitles can´t be seen in the back cover or in the booklet. Moreover: there is no title for each song... And, in addition to this, the lyrics of the songs are written in runes and old Norwegian... these things could suggest another pretentious act consisting of fake sons of Odin. But that´s wrong: the music is very enjoyable and cold at the same time, with enormous –I´d say IMMENSE- melodies, good musical skills, intense vocal lines -including a clean pagan voice that fits perfectly in the music- and all in all fantastic songs. The different tempos are managed with good sense and the guitarwork looms above the musical spectre throughout all the album, without making the interest of the listener decrease. Here you´ll find melodies that will conquer your head and heart. Not a Darkthrone clone, the music of Taake (“Fog” in English) walks a step beyond to mark their own land. Of course the influences can be easily noticeable (Darkthrone, Satyricon, early Dimmu Borgir perhaps...), but Taake is original in their black metal focus when it comes to the feeling sealed in the music. To close these lines: no fill tracks, no leftovers included, “Nattestid...” is one of the best black metal albums I´ve ever heard. I think it´s pretty clear I love this CD reading my words, so I just can recommend this album if you like true black metal done the right way.
