REVIEW: Taiga - [demo] Self-financed, 2001
8/10
Taiga - [demo] - cover art Taiga is a band from Sweden that struggled for a long time to get the attention and credit they knew they deserved. What Taiga members say about themselves is that they're the musicians of nature, of the ancient worlds and the mystic tales. Their latest demo consists of two songs: 'Mist' and 'The Hovel's Song', both very original in concept. Although in their riffs and melodies you're sure to find the usual and overused musical ideas of metal, the entire sound of the two song demo is likely to be appealing to all fans of this genre. While listening to the two songs there's definitely a few things sticking out: one of them is the busy drummer - he sure likes to sweat, no doubt about that - the drum part of the songs are quite well thought out, but there's the unexperienced vocals that stand in the way of making this demo really shine. No complaints from my part on the guitars. This band seems to make it work with only one such instrument in the orchestration... and it sounds just great. With a little polish on the vocalizing skills of the singer - she does have the time to do that... being quite young and all... and a little more luck, and this band is bound to succeed. I gave them an 8.00 because I see a lot of potential in what they are trying to do in their music... it'll be something great for metal if they manage to finish it. All I have to say is: lots of luck to you guys!
