REVIEW: Tartharia - A Secret Device Crash Music Inc., 2003
7/10
Tartharia - A Secret Device - cover art This is the first time we get to hear a very young Finnish band called Tartharia who could very well be the stars of the future. Even though the band was formed as late as November of 2002 the material presented on this mini album shows a great deal of maturity and a strong creative flow within the band. I have to give them credit for the band name as well. Isn't it beautiful? Well, back from my egocentric journey to the band and their music again. It is nice to hear a band from our Eastern neighbours who does not sound like Children Of Bodom or Sentenced / Amorphis. Tartharia have their roots in the black / death metal scene and not surprisingly their music is very melodic as is often the case with bands from the Scandinavian countries for some reason. It could have something to do with the musical education we get here in Sweden but I don't know if it's the same for Finland. No matter what, Tartharia surprised me with this debut release and although their sound is still a little primitive and undeveloped at times it offers the listener a nice experience and we will surely appreciate the musical evolution to come from this very young band. A powerful production, good songs, aggressive vocals and a group of talented musicians makes Tartharia a name to remember from now on.
