REVIEW: Temple Of Baal - Traitors To Mankind Oaken Shield, 2005
5.5/10
Temple Of Baal - Traitors To Mankind - cover art Another black metal album able to catch your attention for a while due to a couple of songs and their crunchy guitars... and not much, really. Some thrash metal leanings are present in their riffing, these guys incorporate a certain thrash or even death focus in some moments to make their black metal varied. In fact this album is not annoying; moreover, it lasts less than 40 minutes which I think it´s the right length of an extreme metal album –and exceptions of this are really scarce; it takes a huge dose of inspiration to record 60 minutes of black / death / doom metal and to become not a buzz in the ears. The songs are correct despite the boredom feeling could come to the fore easily as they keep flowing. Their sound isn´t monotonous but somehow it lacks of hooks and spell. Stylistically Temple Of Baal follow every pattern already trodden in the past and it´s not likely they can surprise any experienced listener very much. Firmly sticking to their arms of carnage they deliver black metal the best way they can, though highlights are rarely found in this album. The same way there are no flaws in production or execution, something that makes possible to wonder about the future of bands like these if they were in the way of the Will, the way to explore and succeed with something relevant, besides releasing an average collection of tracks. Good moments? Well, the Norse acolyte tune “Graveyard Of Disgust” is a good one, for example. This make me wonder about a bright future of this band as long as they advance some steps forward in their course.
