REVIEW: Tenebrae - demo EP Self-financed, 2002
5/10
Tenebrae - demo EP - cover art Tenebrae is a British band that started out four or five years ago by playing covers from bands like Slayer, Fear Factory, Pantera and Machine Head. In the new millennium they have began writing their own material which is heavily inspired by tne nu-metal wave. Unfortunately I was not very impressed with these four tracks. At times they sound pretty good but they are lacking a sound of their own. The music is rather plain nu-metal and the vocals are pretty weak when it doesn't sound like System Of A Down, the only difference being that System Of A Down is actually a very good band. Fans of bands like Machine Head & Co might still enjoy these songs but just like every single pop band on MTV they have been caught in the music industry trap where all that counts is to follow a given winning formula which changes with the tides of time. They are not really bad musicians, it is just that the music they are making is very monotonous and uninspiring. At least this is better than Jason Newsted's post-Metallica work... If you want to listen and make up your own mind just go to the band's website where you can download all four tracks. Just remember that the production is pretty bad. Only recommended for nu-metal fans.
